What does it explain, though? It all feels very natural and normal to me. Nothing about the excess of love in the area seems forced or exaggerated.

Anyone I've seen in the mood for romancing, seemed like an understandable thing. People who were already close. No one's suddenly writing love notes for their professor or a tree or something.
