We've had that golem go nuts, and apparently there's a murderous teacher out there. Even where I'm from, that's not totally normal.

So here's my question: Who's looking out for people here? Not just looking out for the Sundered, but anyone. Where I'm from, there are people with awesome special abilities who protect civilians. They're called superheroes. But there's also all kinds of heroes who do brave and amazing things without any of that.

Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places, but I'm not seeing a lot of that here, and it's almost been a month for me. Has anyone else noticed something?

Yeah. Maybe something like dueling club, except it's for training together?

That's a great idea!

Maybe we could focus more on self-defense that doesn't rely on magic, too. Just to be on the safe side, and to keep our options open.

Yeah. These powers are still new to us, and we're learning...but regular self defense is a little more foolproof I think.

Oh! Um. I'm Sunset Shimmer. I'm in Eiather, so I wear blue robes, but I have really bright red and yellow hair. It's pretty easy to spot me.

Well, I'm Kamala Kahn, and the Ka robes are red. I'm Pakistani and my hair's brown. Medium-length, I'd say.

...heh. Yeah, I get that a lot. Where I come from, names are...different. They seem to have a hand in shaping who you're meant to be---what your personality is, or what you'll be doing for a living.

It's pretty odd if you think about it.

Actually, I think it's great.

And it's not even too different from where I come from. I mean, names there don't really shape us, but parents usually pick a name that reflects how they hope their kid will grow up, or what kind of life they hope they'll have. And since that tends to match the parents' values... I guess it does shape us, in a way.

Of course, sometimes it's a little different. Like, my name comes from how my parents felt about having a second child.

So...how are you liking school so far?

Yeah, it really is!

Well, before writing this, and learning the things that made me write it, I was kind of loving it. I'm really into things like magic - things that are considered more or less fantasy where I'm from. Even the thing with the golem was exciting, as frustrating as it was!

But that one teacher really makes me mad, and I've been realizing how careless the teachers who are actually from this place are being.

I don't want to let that get me too down, though!

The math teacher, although I guess he's a student, too, since he's Sundered like us.

He calls himself a "Reaper" and has this whole video game gimmick going on.

Oh. Yeah, I've heard other students having problems with him. Trying to avoid that class as long as I can.

That's a good idea. I'm not signed up for that class right now, myself. Although I am taking a physics class.
