new bulletin board, who dis?

[That title is absolutely not ic or present at all ok. This angel is NOT that cool.]

Now that we're all getting settled in, I thought it might be nice if we introduce ourselves! So many lovely new faces, and I'm sure much has changed for those of us making a return as well.

So let's put this bulletin board to good use: Who are you?

And we should probably share a little tidbit about ourselves as well. A get-to-know each other--but nothing like those hellish corporate ice-breakers. You're absolutely not obligated to participate, of course, but it does seem like good fun, doesn't it?

I'll go first: My name is Mr. Fell; I love cocoa and long walks in the park, and I own a bookshop back home.

He put you in a computer to keep you from dying? That... sounds all kinds of messed up. ... Can I ask what happened? It's totally cool if you don't wanna answer me. It's just that's a new one for ME.

Grieving fathers tend to be messed up, and mine had resources.

And no, it's fine- I've had plenty of time to deal with it after all.

Essentially, the 'wiring' wasn't correct. The human body is equipped with various systems meant to create emotional response, to spur it onward one way or another.

A computer is not. In essence, once it became clear that the materials and systems weren't there, actually simulating it consistently fell flat. A little like when you're told there's a fly on the wall.

You can't help but notice it.

More than that, the false-reality of everything that was programmed in became steadily more apparent- as well as the fact that, being part of it, I could control quite a lot of it. It's a good way to get an untapped god complex, I'll note.

[he has a hard time following all that, but he does his best. either way, it does sound hellish, being locked away from the world, from being able to feel. especially as just a goddamn kid. he winces in sympathy]

Because you could control the computer world, you, what, thought you might be able to control the real one too? Am I following that right? Especially if you were just a kid ... I can see how that'd make sense.

Haha, not quite.

More that I determined my circumstances made me superior to everything in intellect, and for that matter a 'god' in that domain. If I pulled anyone in, they would have to do as I desired, etc etc...

Sounds very TRON. I'm glad you got out of it, though. Are you, uh ... okay?

[HE UNDERSTOOD THAT REFERENCE]

HAH! That would have been more entertaining at least.

But yes I'm fine. I've been here for about two years now and it's been worth it~

[HOORAY! gold star for Noa!]

Wow. That's good to hear, though. That it helps. I could use some of that. You know how sometimes you just wake up, and out of the blue, you have this crazy power that lets you see stuff no one else can see, and suddenly you can do magic? No? Well that's totally what I've got going on.

Well not from home I can't but at least it's a universal experience for anyone who's 'Sundered' here...

Hmm. That almost sounds like someone put things under a lock for you though. Be it the magic, or the memory of it. Strange.

And a bit concerning, but I suppose there's not a lot that can be done for that here.

do you mind canon spoilers? I can write around them

[personal profile] ronstadt 2021-08-26 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, memory is definitely a BIG factor. I'm missing a whole bunch of it.

I'm super cool w spoilers

Normally I would wonder about head injury, but somehow I suspect it was inflicted upon you, given what you've said so far. How much do you know about what is and isn't missing?
ronstadt: (in a weird place now)

Ok, ty! SPOILERS for S1E4, then!

Pretty much everything before about a year and a half ago is pretty fuzzy. I remember some stuff from high school - this really hairy kid on the basketball team. A karate championship my classmate was in. Some girl almost burning down the school because she thought there were vampires. But if I try to think too hard about it my head hurts.
noasark: (wat)

oh my god ronstadt,

[personal profile] noasark 2021-09-05 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[Boy this sure is a lot! A lot that Noa doesn't recognize at all, fortunately.]

A....hairy kid?

Don't force yourself to think on explaining that, if that's something you get headaches from. It's just a strange image.
ronstadt: (the impression that I get)

99% of his memories are like that and it's so glorious

[personal profile] ronstadt 2021-09-05 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he had some dental issues too. Really nice, though. Talk about not judging a book by its cover. Sometimes I - sometimes I wonder if I'm confusing my memories with dreams, even. A lot of it just seems so ... bizzare.
noasark: (wat)

im so glad...

[personal profile] noasark 2021-09-06 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely memorable...

Perhaps?

Dreams, ultimately, are just a form of memory after all. They're pieced together from various memories we have.

I never actually thought of it that way. I'd ask how a guy like you got so smart but, well ... computer.

HAH!

I can't give it all the credit though; I actually had a degree in business before I went in, after all~

Mind you it was in business, so I wouldn't call that really impressive...

:D

Business impresses me. Guys who know how business works make all the money where I'm from. Even if you're starting your own thing, you gotta know that kinda stuff. I decidedly, uh ... don't.

[personal profile] noasark 2021-09-07 10:39 am (UTC)(link)
Hah, I'll take it as a compliment, though I'll be blunt and note that a lot of how business ends up actually working involves a lot of word play and manipulation.

Good thing I'm not going into business here, I suppose.
