new bulletin board, who dis?

[That title is absolutely not ic or present at all ok. This angel is NOT that cool.]

Now that we're all getting settled in, I thought it might be nice if we introduce ourselves! So many lovely new faces, and I'm sure much has changed for those of us making a return as well.

So let's put this bulletin board to good use: Who are you?

And we should probably share a little tidbit about ourselves as well. A get-to-know each other--but nothing like those hellish corporate ice-breakers. You're absolutely not obligated to participate, of course, but it does seem like good fun, doesn't it?

I'll go first: My name is Mr. Fell; I love cocoa and long walks in the park, and I own a bookshop back home.

"Loki" is fine. From your other notes, you're from a world where the magical and the mundane both exist, but are separated? Would you tell me more about that?

Yeah, it’s a very complicated stuff, but long story short: many wizards look down at normal people in the past due to them having magic and they don’t, which led them to believe that they’re better than normal people. Whereas normal people don’t like the wizarding communities, seeing them as freaks.

It doesn't sound that complicated, when looking at history over all and how people are. People fear what they don't understand, and those with more will always think themselves better. Those with less will always be jealous of those with more and attempt to gain whatever advantage they can in attempts to make themselves better.

Cynical perhaps, but hardly uncommon.

That is sadly the case: so much distrust between both sides and there is no easy way to get everyone to agree on everything.

It's absolutely naïve to think you can get everyone to agree on everything. The best you could possibly hope for is a benevolent majority that does not actively harm or maltreat the minority.

And that can be also said for hoping that the minority doesn’t do anything harmful to the majority as well. I’m not too idealistic to be blind to understand that back home: like what I have said before, it’s very complicated to understand everyone’s motives and reasons.

Glad to hear you're not that idealistic. Now that we've covered the pessimism, what are your thoughts on magic and science co-existing?

If you ask 11 year old me, I would have thought that it wouldn’t be possible due to the clashing in my world.

But now that I’m older and went to a place where it is doable, I am really all for both of them to exist side by side. I mean, there are technomages in Avalon and some people can control technology in there.

On Asgard, magic and 'science' were often the same thing.

Hm, that is pretty interesting. Is science magic a thing in Asgard?

You'll have to explain what you mean by 'science magic' so I can be sure to answer this properly.
phoenixwiz: (What?!?)

[personal profile] phoenixwiz 2021-08-06 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Whoops, guess that my definition of it is quite more rubbish than I thought. What I want to say is that it is a combination of science and technology and magic into one discipline.

Hopefully it does satisfy your question, Loki.

It does. And yes.

Oh thank you. I thought for a moment that I messed it up.

You gave me clarification, so I could properly answer your question. I don't think there was a way to 'mess up' other than to not answer.

Alright then, explain away.
